As part of the Preparatory School of the Arts' two-week summer music camp, two free concerts are taking place at MSU’s New Jersey School of Conservation at Stokes State Forest this weekend.
The Festival Orchestra concert will be held Friday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. The concert, conducted by Paul Hostetter, will include the “Overture to Die Fleidermaus,” Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 7”, and Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Cello” with soloist Leigh Stuart. A gala concert on Saturday, July 23, at 9:45 a.m., will feature the Festival Orchestra, Concert Band and Stokes Singers.
Established in 1976, the Preparatory Center for the Arts provides musical education and training for all age groups. Since that time the school has attracted outstanding faculty members from major performing ensembles in the New York Metropolitan area, including the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan and New York City Opera companies, and the New Jersey Symphony.
In addition to its program at Montclair State, the Preparatory Center, in association with the New Jersey School of Conservation, holds a two-week summer camp that offers students sessions of intense music making, combined with environmental studies and recreational activities.
