Commander Tara N. Smith will discuss her experience being a Counseling Psychologist in the military.
Commander Smith earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree from The University of Iowa in 2000, in Counseling Psychology.
She completed her Psychology internship on active duty at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, California. Since then she has served at the Naval Medical Clinic Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, MD, and the Naval Hospital Sigonella in Sicily, Italy. In addition, she served on the Aircraft Carrier, USS Kitty Hawk and did two tours of duty in Iraq.
Smith’s personal awards include the Bronze Star Meritorious Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Medical Officer Surface Warfare insignia and the Fleet Marine Force insignia.
