Montclair, NJ (9/17/11) – Sophomore midfielder Dan Mendoza (Hackensack, NJ / Hackensack) scored a pair of goals and freshman Tomaz Kwiatkowski (Wallington, NJ /Wallington)
added two more off the bench as Montclair State the last 10 goals in a
10-1 victory over Medgar Evers College at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday
afternoon.
Senior Sean Pauls (Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) and freshman Pablo Zegarra (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) each had had goal and assist as the Red Hawks outshot the Cougars 31-8 in improving to 4-1-2 on the year.
Christopher Welsh (Brooklyn, NY / St. Edmond Campion) made five
saves for the Cougars, who dropped to 0-7 on the season.
Despite the wide margin in both the scoring and shot totals, it
was Medgar Evers that put the first goal on the board 1:42 into the
contest as Zeakiel Daley intercepted a clearing pass out of the box and
moved in along the left side before firing a shot inside the right
post giving the Cougars an early 1-0 lead.
Montclair State, got several chances to tie the game over the
next seven minutes, but couldn’t come up with a goal until the 8:05
mark as Pauls scored his first of the season off an assist from Maxx Wurzburger (Glen Rock, NJ / Glen Rock) tying the game at 1-1.
Zegarra would give the Red Hawks the lead for good as he netted
his second of the year at 26:11. Mendoza tallied the next two goals
1:50 apart, the latter coming at 32:06 as MSU increased its lead to
4-1. Defender Kevin Brown (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Valley) made
it three goals in a 3:24 span as he gathered a ball at midfield and
maneuvered past two defenders before scoring a goal. Kwiatkowski capped
off the scoring the first half with his first collegiate tally as
Montclair State led 6-1 at halftime, scoring five times over the final 14:44 of the period.
Senior Joe Borrajo (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) scored 48 seconds into the second half and Kevin Zalewski (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany) got his third of the year at 53:24. Senior Paul DeMartinis (Kinnelon, NJ / Kinnelon)
connected on a penalty shot for his first career tally at 56:06 before
Kwiatkowski added his second in the 68th minute for the final margin.
Goalkeepers Anthony Rogic (Boonton, NJ /Morris Catholic) and Kevin Lynch (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) each had one save for MSU while freshman Frank Buchel (Voorhees, NJ / Eastern Regional) played a scoreless 14:29 to close out the contest.

rival William Paterson on Wednesday, September 21 under the lights of
Sprague Field at 7:00 pm.
