Field Hockey's Carroll, Football's Keegan Named MSU Athletes of the Week for September 19

Montclair, NJ (9/19/11) - For the second consecutive week, the nationally-ranked Red Hawk football and field hockey teams provide the MSU Athletes of the Week as senior wide receiver Dan Keegan (Fairfield, NJ / West Essex) and sophomore forward Brittany Carroll (Kingston, NY / Rondout Valley) were chosen for the Week of September 19.

Carroll came up with huge goals during a 3-0 week - all on the road - for the 20th-ranked Red Hawks, who at 7-0 are off to their best start since 2008. Carroll opened up her week with the game-winning goal in OT as Montclair started off its NJAC slate with a 3-2 win over Kean rallying back from a 2-0 deficit. Carroll added a goal in a 5-0 win against Misericordia and then followed that up the next day with two goals, including the game-winner in overtime as Montclair slipped past King's College, 4-3. Carroll is currently ranked fourth in the NJAC in both goals scored (8) and points scored (17).

Keegan pulled in seven receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown as No. 10 Montclair State opened up its NJAC schedule with a hard-fought 20-19 victory at Morrisville State last Saturday. Keegan became the ninth player in program history to catch 100 passes in a career as he hauled in a 20-yard reception in the first quarter en route to Montclair’s first scoring drive of the game. He later added a 14-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter, his 17th career scoring catch, moving him into fifth place on the all-time MSU list in that category. Keegan currently leads the team with 10 receptions and is ranked fourth in the NJAC in receptions per game and eighth in receiving yards per contest.
