DelVento, Salemo Named MSU Athletes of the Week for September 26

Montclair, NJ (9/26/11) - Senior football placekicker Jake DelVento (Island Heights, NJ / Toms River South) and volleyball freshman Daniella Salemo (Ramsey, NJ / Ramsey) have been tabbed as the MSU Athletes of the Week for September 26.

DelVento became the second different Red Hawk to earn NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors this season after helping the No. 10 Red Hawks remain unbeaten with a 53-24 NJAC victory over Buffalo State. He finished the day by scoring 11 points, including five extra points and a pair of field goals. He was successful on field goal attempts of 39 and 42 yards, giving him a league-best six field goals made on the season. DelVento currently leads the NJAC in scoring with an average of 8.3 points per game.

Salemo helped Montclair State to a 2-2 week, which included the Red Hawks' first NJAC victory. She posted three double-doubles (kills and digs), including 19 and 12 in a five-set win over Wilkes. Earlier in the week she had 18 kills and 16 digs versus Rowan in a 3-2 loss and followed that up with 13 kills, 12 digs and two aces in a 3-0 win versus Rutgers-Camden. Salemo currently leads the team in kills and is currently ranked sixth in the conference in kills, 18th in service aces (0.33 per set) and 25th in digs (2.44 per set).
