Montclair, NJ (10/1/11) – Sophomore midfielder
Dan Mendoza (Hackensack, NJ / Hackensack) and senior Sean Pauls
(Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) each scored a pair of goals as Montclair
State won its fifth straight blanking City College of New York, 6-0 at
MSU Soccer Park on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Kevin Zalewski (Parsippany, NJ / Parrsippany) and Brandon Trojak (Lumberton, NJ / Rancocas Valley) each netted a goal as the Red Hawks improved to 8-1-2 on the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Tayfun Kucuk (Eskisehir, Turkey / John F.
Kennedy) made six saves for CCNY, which dropped its fourth straight
falling to 3-8-1.
Zalewski gave Montclair State a 1-0 lead just over five minutes
into the game with fourth goal of the season. Zalewski weaved
in-and-out of several defenders before beating Kucuk inside the lower
portion of the goal. It would be the only goal of the half.
In the second, the Red Hawks would score three times in a span of inside three minutes. Pauls headed in a cross from Jon Krzysik (Clifton, NJ / Paramus Catholic)
at 48:51 and Mendoza followed 38 seconds later with a rip shot from 13
yards away making the score 3-0. Mendoza made it three goals in 2:41
with his second and eighth of the year as his blast from just outside
the 18 found the back of the net with 38:28 to play.
Pauls pushed the lead to 5-0 in the 74th minute with Trojak connecting 11 seconds later for the final goal.
Anthony Rogic (Boonton, NJ / Morris Catholic) and Kevin Lynch (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) combined on the shutout with Lynch making the lone save for MSU.
Montclair outshot the Beavers 30-5 and had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, October 4 as they
take on Rhode Island College in a non-conference contest at Sprague
Field beginning at 7:00 pm.
