Montclair, NJ (10/2/11) – Freshman goalkeeper Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) was selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. She is the second Red Hawks to be honored by the league as junior Kelly Palmer (Long Valley, NJ / West Morris Central) was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week on September 5.

Policastro earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors after helping MSU produce back-to-back conference victories. She opened the week by securing one save in 45 minutes of scoreless play during the Red Hawks’ 6-1 NJAC road win at Rutgers-Newark. Three days later, she notched her second career shutout with a 2-0 NJAC win over Rutgers-Camden.

Policastro currently ranks third in the NJAC in goals against average (0.69).
