Pomona, NJ (10/8/11) – The Montclair State women's soccer team picked up a key victory as the Red Hawks won their fourth straight, knocking off Richard Stockton 2-1 at G. Larry James Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Hawks imrpvoed to 8-4 overall, surpassing their win total of a year ago while more importantly moving to 4-2 in the NJAC with the victory. MSU currently sits in third place in the conference stadnings and they also beat the Ospreys (6-5-2, 2-3 NJAC) for the first time since the 2006 campaign and just their fifth overall in 30 meetings, which also includes eight ties.
After a scoreless first half, Francesca Gibson (Cape May/Lower Cape May Reg.) opened
the scoring at the 51:24 mark to give the Red Hawks a 1‐0 lead
with her team‐leading ninth goal of the season. Just 1:33 later,
Stockton’s Jess McQuillen (Tabernacle/Seneca) tied the game 1‐1 on a
shot from about 35 yards away for her fourth marker of the year.
Montclair’s Rachel Senyszyn (Succasunna/Roxbury) tallied the eventual game‐winner, her fourth goal of the season, at the 65:53 mark and the Red Hawks held on for the 2‐1 win.
Montclair State goalkeeper Gina Policastro (East Brunswick/East Brunswick) made four saves in picking up her seventh victory of the season. Stockton’s Sarah Hinkle (Mullica Hill/Paul VI) suffered the loss, kicking out six shots in the process.
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, October 12 as they travel to Union, NJ to face Kean University at 7:30 pm.
