October 13, 2011—Homecoming and Family Day 2011 at Montclair State University welcomes families, alumni, friends, students, and the entire community for a day of fun, food, music, and more. The event will take place on campus on Saturday, October 29, 2011, and include the annual parade of student performances, a carnival, a children's Halloween costume parade, the traditional homecoming football game, and more. Area residents are encouraged to bring their families and participate in the day’s activities. Parking on campus will be free.
Parades and Carnival
The Homecoming and Family Day carnival and barbecue will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. around College Hall and the Alumni Green. There will be rides, games, and traditional carnival fare. In addition, local organizations including Liberty Science Center and Montclair Art Museum will be on hand for crafts, activities, and demonstrations.
The Amphitheater will be the setting for the annual Homecoming Parade beginning at 11:45 with a children’s Halloween costume parade, followed by the Student Showcase.
Tailgating and Football
This year's Homecoming football game begins at 2:00 p.m. at Sprague Field when the Red Hawks take on the Western Connecticut State University Colonials. Tailgating will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Parking Lots 7 and 8 and fans may bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. This year's half-time show will feature the recognition of Montclair State Hall of Famers and the Drums of Thunder of Montclair.
Celebrating the Arts
Special arts offerings for the day include a Kasser Theater Special Lobby Exhibition: Tom Caravaglia and the Choreography of the Camera from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For nearly 50 years, Tom Caravaglia has worked as an innovative photographer in many different genres, with his most jaw-dropping images coming from the world of dance performance. He crafts images of exceptional beauty, celebrating the motion of the human form in provocative and soul-searching ways.
Theatergoers can enjoy a performance of A Chorus Line, a co-production by the John J. Cali School of Music and the Department of Theater and Dance at Memorial Auditorium at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 973-655-5112 or online at www.peakperfs.org.
