Montclair, NJ (10/17/11) – Freshman Kaila Fasano (Westwood, NJ / Westwood)
scored twice and assisted on a third goal as Montclair State won its
second straight blanking SUNY Old Westbury, 4-0 at MSU Soccer Park on
Monday afternoon.
Francesca Gibson (Cape May, NJ / Lower Cape May Regional) and Alyssa Diacheysn (Nutley, NJ / Nutley) each had a goal as the Red Hawks won for the sixth time in its last seven games improving to 10-4-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Caitlin Thomas (Patchogue, NY / Patchogue)
had five saves for the Panthers, who fell to 7-6 on the season.
Gibson gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead with her team-leading 11th
goal of the season at the 24:33 mark. Off a breakaway, Gibson was able
to maneuver around Thomas before shooting the ball into the lower
right corner of the net.
Less than 10 minutes later, Fasano added to the lead with the first of her two tallies. Freshman Melanie Greco (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan)
first a shot that clanked off the post. Fortunately for MSU, Fasano
was right there to tap in the rebound as Montclair led 2-0 with 12:09
left in the first half.
Fasano collected her second goal 7:43 into the second half off an assist from Brittany Casares (Rahway, NJ / Rahway) as she one-timed a crossing pass. Diacheysn capped off the scoring six minutes later with her first tally of the year.
Freshman goalkeeper Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick), who was named NJAC Goalkeeper earlier in the day, stopped two shots for her fourth shutout of the season.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, October 19 with a
road contests at St. Joseph’s College in Long Island, NY at 4:00 pm.
Old Westbury is back home on Thursday, October 20 hosting Farmingdale
State in a Skyline Conference contest at 4:00 pm.
