Medford, NY (10/19/11) – Juinor Casey Shuckers (Lincoln Park, NJ / Morris Catholic) and freshman Melanie Greco (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) each
scored a goal as Montclair State won its third straight outlasting the
rain, wind and St. Joseph’s College, 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman goalkeeper Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick)
made one save for her second straight shutout as the Red Hawks
improved to 11-4-1 on the year. Montclair State extended its unbeaten
streak to eight games (7-0-1).
Shuckers gave Montclair State a 1-0 late in the first half. Off
a corner kick, the Eagles cleared the ball out, however not far enough
as Schuckers collected the ball in the middle of the box and fired a
shot that deflected off a defender and into the net for her first
career goal with 6:54 left before halftime.
Greco added the insurance goal at the 53:50 mark off an assist from Danielle Deserio (Somerville, NJ / Somerville).
Montclair State outshot St. Joseph’s, 14-4.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 22 as they
face Vassar College at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00
pm.
