Montclair, NJ (10/26/11) – Freshman forward Francesca Gibson (Cape May, NJ / Lower Cap May Regional) scored
twice as Montclair State closed out its regular season with its fifth
straight victory blanking Ramapo College, 6-0 at MSU Soccer Park on
Wednesday afternoon.
Senior forward Rachel Senyszyn (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury)
collected a goal and two assists as Montclair State stretched its
unbeaten streak to 10 with the win. MSU (13-4-1) finished its NJAC
slate at 6-2 and will be the third seed in the conference tournament
which gets underway on Saturday, October 29.
MSU, which posted its best conference record in five years,
will host William Paterson in the opening round on Saturday, October 29
at MSU Soccer Park with kickoff set for 1:00 pm. The Red Hawks clipped the Pioneers 1-0 in overtime on September 21 in Wayne as Jenna Carroll (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) scored 4:41 into the extra period.
Sophomore goalkeeper Talia Auslin (Fair Lawn, NJ / Fair Lawn)
stopped 11 shots for the Roadrunners, who finished their season at
3-12-2 overall, 1-6-1 in the NJAC.
The Red Hawks outshot the Roadrunners 29-7 in the game,
including 16-1 in the first half yet the contest remained scoreless as
Auslin made 10 saves in the first 45 minutes.
Montclair would finally break through at the 52:46 mark when
Senyszyn fed a ball into the box to Gibson, who ran on to it three yards
out before tapping in a shot for the first of her two tallies and a
1-0 Montclair State lead. Senyszyn extended the lead 2:21 later on a
penalty kick, her fifth of the season for a two-goal advantage and
Gibson’s second of the game at 61:20 made it a 3-0 game in favor of the
Red Hawks.
The goal was Gibson’s 14th of the season, the most by a
Montclair State player since Natalia Sisti had 17 goals during the 2006
campaign.
Jessica Kiniery (Branchburg, NJ / Brancburg) later added a goal and assist as did freshman Melanie Greco (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Rartian) who netted the final goal at 71:37 with a left-footed shot from 35 yards out. Amanda Pero (Old Bridge, NJ / Old Bridge) had the other goal, her second of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) registered her sixth shutout of the season with the victory making one save.
