Churchill Chosen NJAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

Montclair, NJ (10/31/11) –Senior Kelly Churchill (Newton, NJ / Newton) was chosen as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Churchill is the third different Red Hawks to claim that honor this season.

Churchill earned honors after helping No. 6 Montclair State close out the regular-season with a 1-0 victory over William Paterson University last Wednesday. She keyed a defensive unit that allowed just two shots to the Pioneers as MSU tied the single-season record for victories with its 17th triumph this year as well as the seventh shutout of 2011 for the Red Hawks. Montclair also locked the No. 2 seed in the inaugural NJAC Tournament.

Churchill leads Montclair State into action on Wednesday as the Red Hawks host Rowan University in the opening round of the conference tournament at 7:00 pm.
