Montclair, NJ (11/1/11) – Senior defender Chelsea Keelen (Tinton Falls, NJ / Middletown South) was
named as one of the 51 players chosen to play in the National Field
Hockey Coaches Association Division III Senior All-Star Game. Keelen
will take part in the contest on Saturday, November 19 at Nichols
College in Dudley, Massachusetts as part of the NCAA Division III Field
Hockey Championship weekend.
Keelen becomes the 10th player in Montclair State history to be selected to play in the game as she joins Megan Ulicny and Jen Carbonaro, who played in the 2003 contest; Robyn Apicelli and Alexandria Kelly, who each participated in 2005, Kristen Swartz in 2006, Jenna Gallo in 2008, Megan Walsh in 2009 and Deana Hagel last season.
Keelen has helped Montclair State, ranked sixth in Division
III, to one of the best seasons in program history. The Red Hawks are
currently 17-1 overall this season, tying the school record for
victories while finishing second in the NJAC and earning the No. 2 seed
in the inaugural conference tournament.
A three-time NJAC Defensive Player of the Week selection, Keelen
has helped MSU rank among the best defensive teams in the nation as
Montclair is 13th in goals against average in the latest NCAA
statistical rankings allowing less than a goal per contest. The senior
has started all 18 games this season and leads the team with four
defensive saves as well as one goal and one assist.
