A Memorable Homecoming for Montclair State

A rare early season nor’easter brought rain, snow, and wind to the region but that didn’t stop hundreds of Montclair State University students, alumni, families, and friends from turning out to be a part of Homecoming 2011.

Despite the snow, alumni braved the storm and returned to campus for a memorable Homecoming experience. Most of the day's events were moved indoors so that the fun-filled day could go on. Recent alumni gathered at the tailgate in the Student Center Ballrooms and took pictures with friends in the photo booth, played corn hole and ladder golf, while the DJ provided entertainment. There was fun for the family too, as the kids enjoyed face painting, balloon art, food concession booths, and games especially for the little ones. Many alumni gathered in the Student Center Dining Room at the All Alumni BBQ & Beer Tasting, celebrating the Class of 1986 25th Reunion. Special interest alumni gatherings including EOF, the Student Alumni Mentor Program, and Philosophy and Religion were a huge success. Not a seat was empty in Memorial Auditorium during the Student Showcase, where student organizations performed in the annual talent show. The Panzer Athletic Center was full of activity too. Athletic Hall of Fame Members were greeted and recognized at a reception on the Peter M. Altieri Hall of Fame Room while Swimming and Diving Alumni competed against the current Varsity team. In addition, the 1987 Swim Team and All Americans were honored and celebrated a post-swim meet BBQ. At the Homecoming football game The Red Hawks were cheered to victory as Montclair State won against Western Connecticut, with the final score of 38-7.

Despite the cold and wet conditions, the goodwill and community spirit of everyone involved had a warming effect on the day and helped to make it one of the most memorable Homecoming celebrations Montclair State has ever experienced. It was certainly a day not to be forgotten!
