NEW DOCTORAL PROGRAM APPROVED
I'm pleased to announce that Acting Secretary of Higher Education, Rochelle Hendricks, has approved Montclair State's petition to offer the PhD in Family Studies through the Department of Family & Child Studies in the College of Education and Human Services. The College will launch its first class in the fall 2013 semester. This will be the seventh doctoral program at MSU and our third PhD.
The external reviewer for the DOE--from one of our benchmark institutions, by the way--expressed "enthusiastic support for the implementation of the program" and noted, "Remarkably, there is no existing PhD program in Family Studies in the State of New Jersey, nor within a densely populated 130 mile radius. Montclair State University is well positioned to meet this need."
This addition to our graduate program options once again expands the opportunities for and scope of graduate education at Montclair State and adds further confirmation of our capacity for academic distinction in both teaching and scholarship. I know you all join me in welcoming this new recognition of that distinction.
