Montclair, NJ (11/17/11) – Montclair State placed three players on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association South Atlantic All-Region Team announced on Wednesday. Senior Chelsea Keelen (Tinton Falls, NJ / Middletown South) was named to the First Team while sophomore forward Brittany Carroll (Kingston, NY / Rondout Valley) and junior goalkeeper Megan Bosland (Boonton, NJ / Boonton) were named Second Team.
All three players were an integral part in one of the best
seasons in Montclair State history as the Red Hawks finished 19-3,
setting a new school record for victories while advancing to the second
round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship. All three
players were also recently selected to the NJAC All-Conference Team.
Keelen anchored one of the top defensive units in the nation as the Red Hawks allowed just 28 goals this season and 185 shots, an average of 8.4 per contest. The Red Hawks rank 20th in Division III in goals against average (1.24). Keelen also added two goals and an assist offensively.
Carroll completed one of the most prolific offensive season in program history. Carroll finished the 2011 campaign with 17 goals, 12 assists and 46 points, which rank fourth, fourth and third respectively on the MSU single-season list. She is ranked second in the NJAC in points, third in goals and tied for the league lead in assists.
Bosland ranks 21st in the nation in goals against average (1.25), she stopped 70 shots and recorded six shutouts. Bosland set the single-season mark for wins by a goalkeeper (19) and moved into second place on the all-time MSU list with 45.
