Men's Basketball Tops Rutgers-Newark in NJAC Opener, 75-69

Newark, NJ (11/30/11) – Senior Andrew August (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) had 18 points while Brian Flores (Union, NJ / Union Catholic) dropped in 17 points as Montclair State won its NJAC opener knocking off Rutgers-Newark, 75-69 at the Golden Dome on Wednesday evening.

Freshman Dwight Bostic (Roselle, NJ / Abraham Clark) added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench as MSU improved to 3-2 overall (1-0 NJAC).

The Scarlet Raiders' Pedro Burgos hit his fifth 3-pointer of the night to trim the MSU lead to 68-67 with 43 seconds left. After August hit a layup with 33 ticks remaining, senior swingman Jeremiah Rivers dropped in a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left to make it 70-69.

MSU went back up by three just two seconds later when junior guard Asad Faison (Scotch Plains, NJ / West Rowan H.C.) scored on a long inbounds pass and the Raiders would not score again.

The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, December 2 as they face Coast Guard in the Connecticut College Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
