Montclair, NJ (12/15/11) – Senior defender Kevin Brown (Wayne, NJ / Wayne) was named Third Team as the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) announced its 2011 Division III All-America Team on Thursday. Brown becomes the 19th player in program history to earn All-America honors and claims the 25th overall for the Red Hawks.
Brown, a First-Team All-Region pick, played an integral role in helping Montclair State to the greatest season in its history as the Red Hawks advanced to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship for the first time in school history. MSU, which fell to eventual national champion Ohio Wesleyan in the national semifinals, finished the year 19-4-3 and were ranked No. 4 four in both the NSCAA and D3Soccer.com national polls. All three players were named First-Team All-NJAC last month.
Brown, who was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Final Four in San Antonio, TX, anchored one of nation's top defenses as the Red Hawks finished second in the NJAC and 38th overall in Division III in goals against average allowing 20 goals in 26 games (0.75 GAA) while posting an NJAC-leading 12 shutouts. Montclair also surrendered just 11 shots per game total, including five matches of five or less. Brown also contributed offensively as well with two goals, none bigger than his goal with 16:12 remaining against Stevens in the Sectional Final at Amherst the punched Montclair's ticket to the Final Four.
Brown was a four-year letterwinner and three year starter helping Montclair State to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, two NJAC Championship and three conference championship game trips. He appeared in 66 career games scoring three goals and adding two assists. During his tenure with Montclair State, the Red Hawks allowed just 60 goals while recording 46 shutouts.
