Basketball Guards Flores, Towns Named MSU Athletes of the Week for December 19

Montclair, NJ (12/19/11) - Basketball guards Theresa Towns (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) and men's basketball freshman Brian Flores (Union, NJ / Union Catholic) were named MSU Athletes of the Week for December 19.

Towns helped MSU stretch its win streak to three games in a 2-0 week with two solid all-around games. She had eight points, six rebounds and four assists in the Red Hawks' 70-51 win over New Paltz. She then led the team in scoring with 14 points along with two rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 77-76 road win at Gwynedd-Mercy. For the season, Towns is currently third on the team in scoring at 9.6 points per game while also leading the squad in assists (29) and steals (24). She ranks 11th in the NJAC in assists per game and is 12th in the conference in steals per contest..

Flores led the Red Hawks in scoring during a 1-1 week. He scored a season-best 27 points in MSU's three-point loss (72-69) at Richard Stockton. He then tallied 11 points, three assists and two steals in 19 minutes of action in a 79-40 win over Vaughn as MSU won for the sixth time in its last seven outings. Flores is currently second on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per contest, including 17 three-point field goals. He is also shooting 84 percent (21of-25) at the foul line and has a team-leading 17 steals in addition to 19 assists. Flores ranks fourth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in three-point field goal percentage (.447).
