Montclair, NJ (12/20/11) – Sophomore forward Ordel Goldson (Hackettstown, NJ / Warren Hills) scored
21 points and added eight rebounds, four blocks and three steals as
Montclair State rolled into the holiday break with a 104-64 victory over
Immaculata University at the Panzer Athletic Center.
Sophomore guard Ken Rubenstein (South Orange, NJ / Columbia) added 15 points and senior Andrew August (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) had 14 points and seven rebounds as the Red Hawks put five players in double figures in improving to 9-3 on the season.
Junior guard Nelson Torres (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) had 18
points for the Mighty Mac, who dropped their third straight falling to
3-7.
Montclair State never trailed and after an 8-8 tie with 14:46
mark, the Red Hawks scored six straight points to take the lead for
good. Rubenstein drained a three-pointer and Aaron Williams (West Orange, NJ / Jonathan Dayton) converted a three-point play for a 14-8 lead with 13:39 left.
A three-pointer by Williams got Montclair to a double-digit
lead (21-10) and Rubenstein’s second basket from behind the arc made the
score 30-13 with 7:07 to go before halftime. Goldon , who had 14
points in the first half capped off the first 20 minutes for Montclair
with a jumper as the Red Hawks took a 48-24 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Montclair, which shot 50 percent in the
first half, was even hotter from the floor in the second going 21-of-26
(81 percent) from the field, including 5-of-6 from three-point range.
In addition to its torrid shooting from the field, the Red Hawks were
also 17-of-19 at the foul line.
Williams finished with 13 points while Brian Flores (Union, NJ / Union Catholic) added 10 points along with three rebounds and four assists. Freshman James D’Angelo (Long Valley, NJ / West Morris Central) collected five points, three rebounds and a personal-best 11 assists.
Rob Siter (Yeadon, PA / Bonner) had 16 points and four steals
for the Mighty Macs. Todd Stokely (Conshohocken, PA / LaSalle) added
11 points and five rebounds.
The Red Hawks are now off until Thursday, December 29 when they
face Lehman College in the opening round of the Comfort Inn/Holiday Inn
Classic at Centenary College at 5:30 pm. Immaculata returns on Monday,
January 2 against Mount Union in Basinger Tournament at Lycoming
College.
