Hackettstown, NJ (12/29/11) – Senior forward Andrew August (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) scored a game-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists, six blocked shots and three steals as Montclair State won its third straight, downing Lehman College, 90-53 in the Comfort Inn Holiday Classic at Centenary College on Thursday.
Aaron Williams (West Orange, NJ / Jonathan Dayton) and Daniel Singleton (Neptune, NJ / Neptune) each had 12 points off the bench as the Red Hawks moved to 10-3 on the season. MSU will play in the championship game on Friday at 4:00 pm against either host Centenary or St. Joseph's (Brooklyn).
The Red Hawks never trailed in the game, and after leading by eight points early found themselves tied 16-16 with 6:50 left as Lehman connected on a pair of free throws. After that, Montclair scored the next 13 points started by Singleton's conventional three-point play. Williams would drain a pair of three pointers, the second with 4:58 left gave Montclair a 27-16 lead. Singleton would cap off the run on a layup as Montclair State led 42-23 at the break.
Freshman guard James D'Angelo (Long Valley, NJ / West Morris Central) finished with nine points and nine assists while Ordel Goldson (Hackettstown, NJ / Warren Hills) pulled down a team-best nine rebounds to go along with four points. Ken Rubenstein (South Orange, NJ / Columbia) and Dominique Depts (East Orange, NJ / East Orange Campus) had seven points apiece.
