Swimming and Diving Teams Finish Third at NYU Winter Invitational

New York, NY (1/20/12) – Junior Ashley Vallone (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) posted a first and two second place finishes as the Montclair State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each finished third in the New York University Winter Invitational at the Coles Sports Center on Friday.

Vallone captured the 50 freestyle registering a time of 25.37 before coming back to finish third in the 100 freestyle (53.39) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.39). Kelly Abner (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon) was second in the 200 individual medley (2:17.90) with Kelsie Donahue (Egg Harbor Township, NJ / Egg Harbor) placing third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.51.

On the men’s side, sophomore Joseph Berry (Edison, NJ / Edison) was fifth in the 1000 freestyle (10:22.82) and sixth in the 500 freestyle (4:58.56). Junior Zak Westerberg (Hamilton, NJ / Hamilton North) was sixth in both the 50 freestyle (22.20) and 100 backstroke (58.38) with Thomas Long (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) and Donny Keenan (Scotch Plains, NJ / St. Joseph’s) placing sixth in the 100 freestyle (50.20) and 100 backstroke (1:02.90), respectively.

The Red Hawks are right back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Glassboro, NJ to face NJAC foe Rowan University at 1:00 pm.
