Boston, MA (1/27/12) – The Montclair State women’s
indoor track and field continued its strong 2011-2012 campaign on
Friday as the Red Hawks set several personal-best marks at the Terrier
Classic held at Boston University.
Junior Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford)
continued her outstanding campaign as she registered personal records
in two events. Gearity finished 10th overall in the 400 meters with a
best time of 57.23 seconds which currently ranks sixth in the nation.
Gearity would later run 26.38 seconds in the 200 meters, another
personal record.
Freshman Imani Jones (Roselle, NJ / Abraham Clark)
also turned in a personal best performance in the 200 meters clocking
in at 25.96 seconds. Jones also went 8.16 seconds in the 60 meters
finishing in the Top 20 for the event.
The two then combined with Ashadaya Patterson (Trenton, NJ / Northern Burlington) and Beaira Thomas (Irvington, NJ / Science Park)
for a time of 4:01.60 in the 4x400 meter relay, currently the
sixth-best time in Division III this season. Montclair’s second team of
Sheneya Murphy (Somerdale, NJ / Collingswood), Janee Carr (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway) and Stephanie Fego (Verona, NJ / Verona) ran 4:11.02.
Carr had two personal records in the 200 meters (26.86
seconds) and 400 meters (1:02.97) while Fego set a personal indoor mark
in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.25.
Murphy also boasted personal best in the 200 meters (27.88)
and 400 meters (1:02.20) with Patterson doing the same in the 400 meters
(1:00.07). Nicole Presti (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) ran 5:47.04 to set a new personal best in the mile and Angelina Ollo (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany) collected a personal best in the 400 meters (1:03.76). Ollo also recorded a time of 2:30.39 in the 800 meters.
Elsewhere, freshman Shannon Kermah (Woodland Hills, CA / Burroughs) leaped 5.03 meters (16-feet, 6-inches) in the long jump and Ashley Powell (Orange, NJ / Marylawn of the Oranges)
ran 8.28 seconds in the 60 meters. Thomas went 26.58 in the 200 meters
and later recorded a time of 1:00.94 in the 400 meters.
The Red Hawks return to action with a pair of meets next week. Montclair will compete at the New Balance Invitational at The Armory on Friday, February 3. The next day, MSU will take part in the DeSchriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg University.
