Communication Studies Alumni Gathering – May 10, 2012

Special Private Show Will Be Followed By Networking Reception

Save the Date!  Alumni of the Montclair State University Communication Studies Department are invited to an exclusive gathering on Thursday, May 10. Please join us for a chance to catch up with fellow alumni, see some of your favorite professors, and witness how the department and College of the Arts has grown.  The evening will include a special private show featuring mentalist Manlow and magician Baltus followed by an alumni reception.  Admission for the event is free and will take place in the Howard Fox Theater on the university campus beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Following the performance, alumni will have the opportunity to network with classmates and reunite with faculty members they may not have seen since graduation.  Many Communication Studies faculty members are scheduled to attend, including Wayne Bond, Christine Lemesianou, Todd Kelshaw, and Larry Weiner.

Given the recent announcement that Montclair State University’s Board of Trustees has approved the creation of a new School of Communication and Media, this is a very exciting time for the department. In September 2012, the Communication Studies Department will join with the Broadcasting and Filmmaking Departments to comprise Montclair State University’s new School of Communication and Media.  For more information about the new school, click here.

About the Entertainment
Manlow’s extraordinary talents have been seen by audiences around the world.  He has appeared regularly on television programs, most notably “That’s Incredible,” “Live With Regis and Kathie Lee,” and “PM Magazine.”  Manlow has also hosted his own weekly TV program called, “Manlow’s Meeting of the Minds,” and he has also created and produced a syndicated radio show called, “Seekers of the Supernatural.”  Manlow’s memory enhancement seminar is popular among college audiences.

At nine years old, Howard Baltus was performing magic shows all around Philadelphia.  At 10, he was employed by Burger Doodle, a popular Philadelphia restaurant that catered kids’ parties.  As the years progressed, Baltus adapted his skills in other areas of magic. He learned sleight of hand and focused on close-up magic. He also studied stage craft and created larger stage shows for his clients.  For more than 15 years, Baltus has been performing stage presentations, corporate functions, children’s shows, strolling magic, and street magic.
