Montclair, NJ (2/4/12) – The Montclair State women’s
indoor track and field team, ranked seventh in the latest USTFCCA
Atlantic Regional rankings, continued their impressive run through the
season with results from both the New Balance Collegiate Invitational
and the DeSchriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg University over the
Junior Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) was at the New Balance meet and registered a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles clocking in at 9.53 seconds.
At the DeSchriver Invitational, freshman Janee Carr (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway) finished second in the 55 hurdles running a personal-best 8.90 seconds. Angelina Ollo (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany) did the same in the 500 meters coming in at 1:25.68. Freshman Imani Jones (Roselle, NJ / Abraham Clark) finished seventh in the 55 meters while Ashley Powell (Orange, NJ / Marylawn of the Oranges) ran a season-best in the event at 7.64 seconds. Mahalia Caise (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) came within three-hundredths of a second of a personal best in the 55 meters (7.69) while Antonietta Altilio (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) ran a season-best 7.95 seconds. Caise also posted a time of 28.23 in the 200 meters.
Freshman Dominique Williams (Lumberton, NJ / Rancocas Valley), competing in her first race this season, ran 1:04.06 in the 400 meters.
In the field events, Sheneya Murphy (Somerdale, NJ / Collingswood) was fifth with a personal best of 4.94 meters (16-feet, 2.5-inches). Shannon Kermah (Woodland Hills, CA / Burroughs) was seventh in the triple jump (10.37 meters / 34-feet, 2.5-inches) and threw 8.88 meters (29-feet, 1.75-inches) in her first career shot put event.
Freshman Faith Njoku (Cedar Grove, NJ / Cedar Grove) posted a personal-best mark 9.97 meters (32-feet, 8.5-inches) in the shot put.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, February 11 when they compete in the CTC Indoor Championships at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
