Women's Lacrosse Chosen Third in NJAC Preseason Poll

Montclair, NJ (2/16/12) – The Montclair State women’s lacrosse team was selected to finish third in the 2012 New Jersey Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Red Hawks were picked to finish behind defending league champion The College of New Jersey and Rowan University. Ramapo, Kean and Rutgers-Camden rounded out the poll conducted by the league’s head coaches.

The coaches’ dark horse selection, Montclair State placed third in the 2011 NJAC race with a 3-2 conference record while finishing 13-6 overall. The 2011 Red Hawks won the Skyline Conference Championship and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament via the Skyline’s automatic bid. Seventh-year head coach Nicol Parcelluzzi has led MSU to a 71-36 overall mark during her tenure at the helm of the Red Hawk program. Montclair State returns two all-conference players from its 2011 NCAA squad, including junior attacker Kailee Beal (Succasunna, NJ / Roxbury) and senior midfielder Cora Delfini (New Egypt, NJ / New Egypt).

Montclair State opens its 2012 schedule on Tuesday, February 28 at home against Drew University. First draw is slated for 7:00 pm. The Red Hawks’ first NJAC contest is on March 28 at Ramapo College. Overall, MSU will play 15 contests which also includes an April 10th meeting with 2011 NCAA Final Four participant TCNJ.

MSU will serve as the host for the 2012 NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship at Sprague Field on May 19-20.
