Towns, Tobie Help Montclair Sweep NJAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

Montclair, NJ (2/20/12) - Sophomore guard Theresa Towns (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) and freshman forward Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ / Roselle Catholic) each earned honors on Monday as the duo were named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Both players helped the Red Hawks advance to the NJAC Tournament semifinals for the fifth straight season as the Red Hawks (19-7) won twice last week, including a 76-67 victory over Richard Stockton in the first round of the league tournament.

Towns had a season-high 21 points along with five steals as the Red Hawks nailed down a first-round home game with a 61-49 road win at Ramapo. She then had 17 points, 15 in the second half, as MSU knocked off Richard Stockton. Towns also had a big basket in the game as her driving layup with 1:30 left gave Montclair a seven-points that all but sealed the game for the Red Hawks. Towns is currently third on the team in scoring averaging 10.7 points per games along with 3.6 rebounds per contest and a team-best 61 assists.

Tobie, now an eight-time honoree this season, scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the victory at Ramapo. She then registered her third double-double of the season and ninth 20-point contest going for 20 points and 12 boards along with three blocks as the Red Hawks downed Richard Stockton. Tobie is currently third in the league in scoring at 17.8 points per game and is also seventh in rebounding (8.0 ppg) and fourth in field goal percentage (.505) and free-throw percentage (.798).
