Men's Lacrosse Suffers Third Straight Loss at No. 13 Dickinson, 15-8
Carlisle, PA – Junior midfielder Kenneth Bogert (Brick, NJ, Brick Township) scored a pair of goals and added 10 faceoff wins and five ground balls however a three-goal spurt during the third period helped 13th-ranked Dickinson College pull away as the Red Devils knocked off Montclair State, 15-8 at Biddle Field on Saturday.
Senior attack Tyler Meth (Basking Ridge, NJ, Ridge) had a goal and two assists for MSU, which dropped to 0-3 on the season.
Meth’s first goal gave Montclair State and early 1-0 lead and after Dickinson tied the game, Bogert scored unassisted with 7:29 left as Montclair led 2-1.
The Red Devils responded with three consecutive goals to end the period as Will Scott’s man-up tally gave Dickinson a 4-2 lead after one period. Brian Cannon added a fourth straight tally to start the second period however Montclair countered with three goals to tie the game midway through the period.
Jack Skeels (Roseland, NJ, West Essex) got the spurt going as he finished off a feed from Meth with 11:05 left. Bogert followed with his second 51 seconds later and Joel Van Der Wal (Columbia, NJ, North Warren)’s tally with 8:16 to go knotted the game at 5-5. Bobby Kingsley scored for Dickinson as the hosts regained the lead before halftime and Matt Cherry’s goal 1:56 into the third gave the Red Devils a 7-5 advantage.
Michael Schreck (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central)’s goal less than a minute later pulled Montclair State back to 7-6 but the Red Devils scored the next three goals to take a 10-7 lead after three periods. Brian Cannon, Sam Abramson and Sam Greenberg each scored before MSU’s Matt Prongay (Edison, NJ, Edison) broke up the run with a goal with 4:59 remaining.
Cannon set up Ward Gruppo for two goals as Dickinson led 12-7 just 19 seconds into the fourth quarter. Ryan Magner (Mahwah, NJ, Mahwah) tallied a man-up goal with 11:21 that got the Red Hawks got within 12-8 however that would be as close as Montclair would get.
Senior goalkeeper Mark Glander (Vernon, NJ, Vernon Township) stopped 15 shots for Montclair State, which got three ground balls from defenseman Mike Lade (Randolph, NJ, Randolph).
The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, March 10 when they host St. Lawrence University at Sprague Field beginning at 1:00 pm.
