Gearity Solidifies Spot for NCAA's at Columbia Last Chance Meet

New York, NY  - Junior Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ, Rutherford) made the most of her last chance prior to next week’s NCAA Championships putting herself in prime position for a spot in the national meet as Montclair State took part at the Columbia Last Chance Meet at the New Balance Track and Field Center on Saturday.

Competing in the 400 meters, Gearity ran against Guyana Olympic runner Aliann Pompey and held her own through the race finishing second overall. More importantly however Gearity registered a time of 56.70 seconds, a personal best which moved her to No. 13 on the national list.

That placing has even more significance as the Top 15 times are selected to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships on March 9-10 at Grinnell College’s Charles Benson Bear ’30 Recreation and Athletic Center in Grinnell, Iowa.

The official competitor list for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Monday, March 4.

Elsewhere in the meet, junior Ashadaya Patterson (Trenton, NJ, Northern Burlington) finished third overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 9.08 seconds.
