The Montclarion Scoops Up Journalism Awards

The Montclarion won three awards in the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association 2011-2012 College Newspaper Contest, which recognizes the achievements of staff members at New Jersey college newspapers.

Awards were earned in the following categories:

Column/Opinion Writing
Second place—Dylan Soltis, Columnist

Editorial Writing
Third place—Jacob Mercer-Pontier, Opinion Editor

Sports Writing
Third place—Nick Verhagen, Sports Editor

“These highly competitive awards recognize how students are using The Montclarion as a valuable journalistic learning experience,” says Marc Rosenweig, assistant professor of broadcasting and faculty advisor for The Montclarion. “Over the last four years, Montclarion students have won 10 awards from the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association and been honored three times with Sigma Delta Chi region 1 Mark of Excellence Awards.”

The contest attracted over 300 entries from 21 colleges around the state.
