New Haven, CT (12/4/11) – The Montclair State
men’s indoor track and field team opened its 2011-2012 season at the
CTC Relay Carnival at Yale University on Sunday. The Red Hawks placed
Senior Jon Tancer (Montville, NJ / Montville) had the top showing of all the MSU competitors as he finished third in the shot put with a best throw of 14.30 meters. Tancer also finished 13th in the weight throw with a distance of 35-ffet, 2-inches.
James Hamilton III (Somerset, NJ / Franklin) was sixth in the high jump while freshman Emmet Mather (Lake Como, NJ / Manasquan) taking eighth in the long jump (6.08 meters) in his first collegiate meet.
On the track, freshmen Hassan Stuckey (Rahway, NJ / Colonia) and Charles Dean Williams (Mays Landing, NJ / Oakcrest) placed 10th and 11th, respectively. Both ran the identical times of 7.44 with Stuckey edging out Williams for the Top 10 finish.
Montclair’s 4x400 relay team of Daniel Woods (Plainfield, NJ / Plainfield), Ian Poinsett (Salem, NJ / Salem), Koran McDaniel (Neptune, NJ / Neptune) and Jonathan Feigin (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) finished third with a time of 3:32.49 while the 4x200 relay squad of McNaiel, Woods, Feigin and Stuckey was fourth clocking in at 1:34.37.
The 4x800 team of Nicholas Kral (Randolph, NJ / Randolph), Rafael Irula (Rockaway, NJ / Morris Hills), Mark DiGennaro (Wharton, NJ / Morris Hills) and Rodney Copeland (Toms River, NJ / Manchester) posted a time of 8:31.23 to place sixth in the event and the sprint medley team of Eric Gershey (Boonton, NJ / Parsippany Hills), Mather, Poinsett and Charles Williams (Red Bank, NJ / Red Bank Regional) did the same posting a time of 3:48.85.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, December 10 as they take part in the Princeton New Year Invitational at Jadwin Gymnasium.
