The MSU Athletic Training Education Program in February of 2008. My how we have grown!
The MSU contingent was in full force at the 2008 ATSNJ conference; Amy felt 'the love' as she received her scholarship award. For the frosh, it was their first professional conference. Dr. Grant-Ford chatted with the O'Connors. Mum O'Connor traveled from Great Britain to congratulate her sister ummmm..her daughter.

Three of the 2007 grads

One evening in the fall of 2008, a football game between Eastside and Bloomfield High Schools established a record for the most athletic training students in one off campus locale AND also the largest number of international and/or AT students for whom English is not their first language. Meet Hiro (on left from Japan); Amy (second from left [Gr.Britain]); Danielle; Marcin (from Poland); and Nick M. The class below Nick has students from Korea, Brasil and India.

Amanda is working hard at being 'the student' in student-athlete. Here she is with her CI Steve Papa (Pascack Valley HS). To the right she gets serious in another venue.

Freshmen in Clinic 1
Amy's summer 2007 internship with the Red Bulls got her up close and personal with the latest LA Galaxy import when they practised [sic] at MSU. Later, the fellow Brits got together for a chat and a photo op. Amy sure knows how to cap off an internship!
On April 1, 2006, The MSU ATEP became the first program in the ESPE department to host a program partially sponsored by external resources. The cadaver lab experience has become an annual event which is the culmination of the Clinical Anatomy (ATTR 240) course. The ATEP extends gratitude to The NJ Sports Medicine Institute and Park Avenue Orthotics and Gotham Surgical for this unique and awesome experience. The laboratory experience was held in the Exercise Physiology Lab in the newly opened University Hall which now houses, under one roof, the academic disciplines which comprise the College of Education and Human Services.
The MSU ATEP state of the art Biodex is housed in the University Hall Exercise Physiology Lab, a research and instructional facility.
In the spring of 2007, MSU ATEP undergraduates began collecting data for a bona fide research project. Under the direction of Dr. Middlemas, the sophs mastered the Biodex and goniometric protocols for Dr. Rizio's GIRD study. Ali is at the terminal and Ashley adjusts the Biodex.
Amy and Marcin record the goniometric internal and external rotation measurements of the pitching shoulder.

Operator switch... we start 'em young at MSU.
 now to..........CADAVER LAB 2007
J & J sponsored the educational in-service portion of the 2007 cadaver experience. Our clinical instructors (CIs) were invited in the am to view the dissection.

       Thank you, Johnson & Johnson

The ATEP also acknowledges the sacrifice so that we may learn.

Drs. Rizio & Fischer were generous with their time; they spent the entire day with us.

Dr. Grant-Ford gives the overview to the frosh. Dr. Rizio and leg dissection. Dr. Fischer guides group through the forearm.
Below, Dr. Fischer dissects out the extensor digitorum longus and the extensor hood. Of course, no experience is without surprises.
Dr. Grant-Ford keep a watchful eye on all 'green horns'.
Some have asked if intercollegiate athletics is compatible with the ATEP. It is not easy, but senior Kaite got it done. That is Kaite on the right (white shirt #19 in foreground). Kaite completed Clinic 5 in 2007 with one more year of eligibility left in '08. She also organized and presided over the new Athletic Training Club. "When you want something done, ask a busy woman."

On February 27, 2006 the Athletic Trainers' Society of New Jersey awarded Head Athletic Trainer John Davis (center) its highest honor...induction into the ATSNJ Hall of Fame.
ATEP faculty, students and alumni gathered at the luncheon to witness this well deserved honor. MSU assistant athletic trainer Joe Savoia even found a way to be at two places at once!
The ATEP senior presentations and 2005 year end program were held at the Yogi Berra Museum with Mr. Yogi Berra (above). Here is 2005 new graduate Lauren McAlister, ATC, in her own athletic training room at Bearley High School (above).

In 2005, our first Official ATEP class graduates with a BS in Athletic Training. This group has a 100% first time Pass rate on the BOC exam and are employed locally.

Ike and Red Skeleton have a meeting of the minds.

Ike made us really proud this year when he was able to avert a serious health threat to a friend with his athletic training knowledge. Their story appeared in the NATA News.
Clinical Instructor Margaret Doherty, ATC (Wayne Hills HS) and Lauryn H before they head out to the field on a chilly Saturday morning. A team effort to untangle  spider straps quickly and efficiently. They practice until they could do this in their sleep.
