- Yes, this is true. After acceptance but prior to enrollment, all incoming students take the Montclair State University Placement Test administered by the Center for Academic Development and Assessment.
Are there specific degree programs Adult Learning students can pursue and are there online courses?
- All undergraduate programs are open to adult students. Not all programs have day and evening courses and very few courses are available in online formats. The Schedule of Courses Book from the Office of the Registrar has complete information.
Can I meet with a CAAAL advisor before I submit my application?
- Yes, through individual and group sessions, CAAAL provides clarification, support and encouragement to adult learners before and after the admissions process.

How many credits should I take?
- A full-time course load is 12 or more semester (credit) hours and a part-time load is less than 12 hours. Adult Learning students can enroll on a full- or part-time basis.
Can I earn credit for life experience?
- Yes. After acceptance to Montclair State University, a CAAAL advisor can explain how life experience may translate to credit hours. Acquiring credits from life experience typically involves an evaluation program such as one administered by Thomas Edison State College, the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), or the NYU Proficiency Testing in Foreign Languages.
