Academic

Enrolling in the Educational Opportunity Fund Program provides students unique advantages not available to other MSU students. The "E.O.F. Advantage" is that new freshmen:

  • Attend a six week residential orientation program starting June 28 and ending August 7th (in 2008). All E.O.F. students are required to attend the summer program and live on campus.
  • Learn and experience what college life is really about.
    Enroll in mathematics, reading, and writing courses for the six weeks, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or you will be enrolled in Intensive English As A Second Language courses.
  • Earn up to nine credits, the equivalent of three courses towards graduation requirements.
  • Start the fall semester with a University grade point average.
  • Receive individual and group counseling in the afternoons to assist students with the tools and attitude to excel at the university level.
  • Establish relationships with Montclair State University faculty and staff.
  • Learn to access student services and resources on campus.
  • Learn University policies and procedures you should know as a student.
  • Establish friendships during the summer program.

ELECTRONIC LEARNING/INSTRUCTION

"Electronic Learning/Instruction" is designed to provide students with academic enhancement skills and affective information using technology.

The Electronic Learning/Instruction Lab (EL/I Lab) will provide expertise in the integration of instructional technology into the educational process.The EL/I Lab will provide technical assistance to faculty to create course specific tutorials or interactive presentations.

Mission Statement

"The Electronic Learning/Instruction Lab uses technology and data to holistically develop and improve the skills of learner(s)".

Participating students will use technology:

  • To develop and improve their academic skills/needs.
  • To acquire the necessary skills to understand the use of specific software.
  • To identify individual affective characteristics.

Goals

  • To develop the computer skills of students.
  • To develop course specific electronic interactive tutorials.
  • To develop interactive presentation modules.
  • To improve initial "E.O.F. student graduation rates by 40%.
  • To develop a local E.O.F. database.
  • To administer electronic affective instruments (constructing a learners database) which will assist counselors in developing individualized behavioral prescriptions.
