Montclair State University will host its "8th Annual Dinner" on April 26 from 6-9 p.m. in University Hall. This year’s dinner is devoted to celebrating the John J. Cali School of Music and features an array of performances by students from the College of the Arts. Proceeds from this year’s event will go toward student scholarships.
Global Images 2007
Montclair State hosts "Global Images 2007," an international travel photography exhibition presented by University faculty and staff, from April 5 through May 3 in Gallery One. There will also be an opening reception on Thursday, April 6 from 4-6 p.m. in Gallery One. The event is sponsored by The Global Education Center and the Montclair State University Art Galleries.
Montclair State University presents Filmmakers Lecture Series
Montclair State University will host “Film Forum,” a weekly program featuring prominent filmmakers, on Tuesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. in University Hall, room 1020.
Open to Montclair students and the general public, audience members are invited to ask questions and hear personalized inside stories from some of the most innovative filmmakers in the region. Admission is free.

Jake Mahaffy, recognized as one of the “25 New Faces of Independent Film,” by Filmmaker Magazine, has been awarded grants from Creative Capital and the Guggenheim Foundation. He was selected as the inaugural Lynn Auerbach Screenwriting Fellow by the Sudance Institute.

Bruce Sinofsky, an award-winning documentary film director, began his career in 1977 at Maysles Films. Within a year, he had worked his way up to associate producer, working on such projects as the Christo documentary, “Running Fence.” He co-formed his own production company, Creative Thinking International, with documentarian, Joe Berlinger. Their first production, “Brother’s Keeper,” became the most successful self-distributed documentary to date.

Tami Gold, partner in AndersonGold Films, launched her career in the Newsreel Film Collective of the anti-Vietnam War movement when she was 20 years old. She has since produced and directed more than 20 films about controversial and often ignored subjects. Her work has appeared in places such as the Sundance Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, and the Museum of Modern Art.

Matt Mochary, an award-winning film director, co-directed his first film, Favela Rising, with Jeff Zimbalist in 2005. The film was the co-winner of the “Best Feature Film” award at the 2005 International Documentary Association Distinguished Documentary Achievement Awards. He is also the founder of Mochary Programs, a group that provides practical education to youth in under-served communities.

Lloyd Kaufman, an American film director, producer, and documentarian, is the president and founder of Troma Entertainment, which is the oldest continually operating fully independent movie studio in the world. Since 1974, Troma has produced, acquired and distributed more than 1,000 feature films from different regions and genres. Best known for Toxic Avenger, Troma is also the author of the book, Make Your Own Damn Movie.

Mark Strand Poetry
Mark Strand, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and former United States poet laureate, will read recent work at a poetry reading and book signing at Montclair State University on Wednesday, April 4 at 12:30 p.m. in the University Hall Conference Center. A question and answer session and book signing will follow the reading. The event is free and open to the public.
