MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- PharmFest 2006, a daylong program designed to give high school and college students a chance to explore career opportunities in the pharmaceutical and related industry and to broaden awareness on the current and future state of the pharmaceutical industry in New Jersey, will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Montclair State University ( www.montclair.edu ). It will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at University Hall in the 7 th Floor Conference Center The event is hosted by Montclair State University in cooperation with the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey. It is free to MSU students, alumni, and the general public.

PharmFest 2006 will feature Keynote Speaker, Dr. Fred M. Jacobs. Various company representatives within the pharmaceutical industry will also be present to meet with participants. There will be panel discussions with representatives from the following companies: Adams Respiratory, Chugai, HealthCare Institute of NJ, Organon, Wyeth, Amide Pharmaceuticals, Cu-Tech, Eisai, Merck, Novartis, and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. More companies may be added to the panel, as the date approaches.

PharmFest 2006 is intended as an opportunity for career exploration. Some participating firms may be willing to accept resumes for consideration for employment during the Career Expo portion of the day.  PharmFest 2006 is divided into four major segments:

  • Keynote addresses by key pharmaceutical officers and government leaders
  • Panel Discussion with major executives from the industry
  • Series of smaller workshops and roundtable discussions
  • Career Expo.

  Keynote Speaker, Dr. Fred M. Jacobs, is the Commissioner of the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services under Governor Jon S. Corzine. Prior to his appointment under former Governor Richard J. Codey in December 2004, he was the Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System.   Dr. Jacobs has also held many faculty positions. In 1990, he graduated from Rutgers University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey and is admitted to the Bar of the States of New Jersey and Florida.

Dean Robert S. Prezant of the College of Science and Mathematics at Montclair State University explains, "Dr. Jacobs' deep background and leadership in the field of medicine and his role as Commissioner of Health and Senior Services in New Jersey make him both a voice to listen to as well as a remarkable role model. His insight into the heath professions, the health industry, and the role of the state government in health issues, make him a natural as a key note speaker for PharmFest 2006"
