Majors
There are over 80 majors and concentrations at the University. Many of them have certain GPA criteria and/or specific departmental requirements which must be met before a student can declare the major. In all cases, to change or declare a major a student must complete a "Change of Major/Minor" form and have it signed by the chairperson of a department/their designee. Students must also sign the "Change of Major/Minor" form. All Change of Major/Minor forms are to be submitted to the Center for Academic Advising and Adult Learning, Morehead Hall 132.

[Return to Top] Minors
With all the emphasis placed on choosing a major, you may not realize that there are over 45 minors offered at Montclair State University! A minor is a designated group of courses ranging from 18 to 24 credits in a specific academic discipline. It does not have to directly relate to your intended major. However, a minor can be chosen to complement your major or it can just be a subject you are interested in studying.
A minor is not a requirement for graduation, although declaring and completing the requirements for a minor could potentially benefit you in the future. Keep in mind that there are specific requirements for each individual minor. If you are interested in exploring one of the minors listed below, speak to an academic advisor in the Office of Academic Advising and also come pick up a curriculum guide.
To declare a minor, you must complete a "Change of Major/Minor" form and have it signed by either the chairperson of a department and/or an academic advisor in the Office of Academic Advising, depending upon the minor you have selected.
For more information about any minor, click on the academic department's Web site below.
