McLEAN NAMED DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK BY NJAC

Montclair , NJ (11/11/07) – Freshman Mario McLean (Montville, NJ / Montville) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Rookie of the Week on Sunday.

McLean became the first Red Hawk to be chosen for the Rookie of the Week award this season and the seventh different Montclair player(eight total awards) to earn weekly accolades in 2007

McLean becomes the first Red Hawk to earn NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week honors in his first career game on the defensive side of the ball. A wide receiver/kick returner through the first nine games of the season, McClean switched sides of the ball to play cornerback and finished tied for team-high honors with 10 total tackles in a 31-6 MSU victory over WestConn.

McLean, who finished with seven solo stops, helped MSU hold the Colonials to 274 yards of total offense, as the Red Hawks post eight wins for the 18th time in program history. A member of the special teams unit as well, McLean has 21 total tackles in addition to his 22.9 kickoff return and 10.5 punt return averages.
