In his first two seasons as the head coach of the Montclair State men’s soccer program, Brian Sentowski has averaged 14 victories and has taken his team to the post season each year. Sounds like a pretty good start. He will be the first to agree with that, however, for Sentowski there is still more to accomplish.

Last season, Sentowski led his Red Hawks to their best season in five years. Montclair State finished 16-3-4, its most victories in a season since 1991, and came within a game of finishing first in the highly-competitive New Jersey Athletic Conference. Ranked among the top teams in the region and nation throughout the year, Sentowski’s team was also ranked in the Top 20 nationally for 10 of 12 weeks, reaching as high as No. 6 in the country. His squad punctuated an outstanding season by capturing the ECAC Metro Championship.

In his first season, Sentowski guided MSU to a 12-7-2 mark, including three losses by a goal and narrowly missed out on the NJAC Tournament. Returning to the post-season in the ECAC Metro Championship, seventh-seeded Montclair State knocked off the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, reaching the championship game before bowing in double-overtime, 1-0 to top-seeded Stevens Tech.

A graduate of Rutgers University, Sentowski was a four-year letterwinner for the Scarlet Knights and was a member of RU’s national runner-up team in 1990. He went on to serve as the team’s captain and was a four-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference

member from 1990-1993. Sentowski capped off his senior season in 1993 by being named a Regional All-American, and left as Rutgers’ all-time assist leader - a record that stands today.

A former first-round pick of the Cleveland Crunch of the NPSL, Sentowski went on to play professionally for five years, four with the New Jersey Dragons of the USISL (1994-97) and one season with the Lehigh Valley Stream of the A-League (1999). In addition, Sentowski currently serves as Director of Coaching with the Parsippany Soccer Club - as well as the head coach.

Sentowski has also worked closely for several years with the New Jersey Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) and the PDA Soccer Club. He also spent three years as an assistant coach at Livingston High School where he helped the Lancers to a berth in the North Jersey Group IV finals in 1995.

Originally from Hauppauge, NY, Sentowski was a former scholastic standout as well, earning New York State Player of the Year honors in 1990 while at St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip. He was a two-time Parade All-American, Umbro All-American and Gatorade All-American throughout his playing days and also spent several years with the United States “Under 20” National Team.
