RED HAWK MEN DROP DUAL MEET WITH MERCHANT MARINE

Montclair, NJ (12/11/07) - The Montclair State men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2007 portion of its schedule on Tuesday as the Red Hawks fell to 4-4 on the year with a 152-86 loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at the Panzer Pool.

Jon Kurtz ( Stockholm, NJ / Vernon Township) was the lone individual winner as he captured the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.55. MSU also took first place in the 200 freestyle relay as the quartet of Matt Cappilla ( Barnegat, NJ / Southern Regional), Matt Hyde ( Clifton, NJ / Clifton), Ryan Fanning ( Livingston, NJ / Livingston) and Derek Henrichsen (West Allenhurst, NJ / Ocean Township) registered a time of 1:39.19.

Senior Ricky Miller ( Seaside Park, NJ / Monsignor Donovan) turned in a three second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 freestyles with times of and 50.66 and 1:50.52, respectively. Blaise Lacca (Sewell, NJ / Washington Township) and John Adams ( Wharton, NJ / Pope John XXIII) went 2-3 in the 50 freestyle with times of 23.14 and 23.17 while Joe Knolmajer ( Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) was second in both the 200 individual medley (2:11.83) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.13).

Kurtz, Miller, Lacca and Adams combined to finish second in the 200 medley relay posting a time of 1:41.60.

The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, January 12 as both the men’s and women’s teams head to Hoboken, NJ to face Stevens in a 12:00 pm dual meet with the Ducks.
