MONTCLAIR SEASON COMES TO AN END IN NCAA TOURNAMENT; RED HAWKS FALL IN NAZARETH, 3-0

Montclair , NJ (11/8/07) – The most successful season in the history of the Montclair State volleyball program came to an end on Thursday as the Red Hawks fell to Nazareth College, 3-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Stevens Institute.

Sophomore Anna Chesnakova (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) had 11 kills for MSU, which finished the season at 22-15. The Red Hawks fell to the Golden Flyers 30-19, 30-25 and 30-23 as Montclair, making its first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament, saw its four-match winning streak snapped.

Sophomore setter Raisa Silva (Newark, NJ / East Side) finished with 23 assist and 15 digs for the Red Hawks. Silva closed out her season with 1,300 assists, surpassing her own single-season record set last year by more than 100.

Sophomore Karen Martin (Sicklerville, NJ / Washington Township) added eight kills and six digs while Devon Johnston (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) had five kills and 10 digs.

Montclair State had reached the NCAAs after capturing the New Jersey Athletic Conference title for the first time in a decade. MSU, which set a school record for victories, won three matches in five days in including road upsets of No. 2 Richard Stockton and No. 1 seed New Jersey City in thrilling five and four-set victories, respectively.
