STOCKTON TOPS MONTCLAIR 5-2 FOR FOURTH STARIGHT WIN
Pomona, NJ - (10/20/07) – Leah Pocoroba (Galloway/Holy Spirit) notched a hat trick to lead Richard Stockton (15-2-2, 5-1-2) its fourth straight win, 5-2 over Montclair State (6-8-1, 5-3) in NJAC women’s soccer today. Shelley Gibney (Shamong/Seneca) added a goal and an assist while Laura O’Shea (Petersburg/Ocean City) also scored a goal for the Ospreys. Stockton goalkeeper Alex Rogers (Medford/Shawnee) made five saves for the win.
Christyn Scillieri (Wayne/Wayne Valley) and Liza Offreda (East Rutherford/Midland Park) netted one goal apiece for Montclair State. Red Hawks’ goalie Leah Tepperman ( North Andover, MA/ North Andover) recorded four saves in the game.
Stockton jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three goals on breakaways in the first half. Gibney opened the scoring at 23:24 and Pocoroba scored her first two markers less than five minutes apart at 33:25 and 38:06. In the second half, Montclair State tried to rally with goals by Scillieri and Offreda in a span of 3:54 to pull within 3-2 with 34:54 to play.
Pocoroba scored her third goal of the game on a rebound at 78:42 to end the threat and give Stockton some breathing room. O’Shea later closed the scoring on a header at 85:21 and the Ospreys extended their current unbeaten streak to nine games (8-0-1) with the 5-2 victory.Stockton will play its final regular season game at Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday, October 24 at 7 pm. Montclair State host NYU tomorrow at 2 pm.
