TO: Certified Athletic Trainers

FROM:John Davis, MS, ATC - Coordinator of Athletic Training and Sports Medicine Services

RE: ATHLETIC TRAINING FACILITIES and STAFFING (2008-09)

Please note: Our main Athletic Training Facility in Panzer Gym has been closed for renovations. We are now located at 30 Normal Ave. Space here is extremely limited.

One or more of your teams will be playing against MSU teams during the upcoming athletic year. When your teams play at MSU a certified athletic trainer or qualified first-aider will be available or on staff at all home games. (Non-traditional events are difficult to cover onsite, as I am sure they are at your institution. A qualified individual will be available on campus when an event is played at MSU.) Unfortunately MSU teams will be traveling without a certified or athletic training student. We will contact your institution if any of our athletes have special needs.

Our certified staff and student staff will provide the following services:

  • Ice & Water and Emergency Supplies (splints, etc) will be available on the bench. Bottles/ Cups will be available upon request. Modalities will not be available due to the closing of the Athletic Training Facility in Panzer.
  • Taping will be available at each separate playing site, ie:
    Sprague field, Field Turf;
    Pittser, Grass (FH, Soccer, Lacrosse)
    Student Recreation Center (VB, BB) near court
    Baseball and Softball stadiums both have their own Athletic Training Facilities.

Our team physicians are on call at all times. If your team is traveling without an athletic trainer or a student first aider, please notify our staff. Please send along a kit, tape, and specific instructions for an athlete who has specific needs. Taping will be conducted 1.5 to 1 hour prior to game time. We will not tape visiting athletes unless they provide their own tape. If we can be of any help, please call:
