A grassroots, non-partisan campaign to assure all New Jersey families full equality by bringing the state of New Jersey into compliance with its own law - the Law Against Discrimination, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of marital status.See especially the TaFFE NJ Domestic Partnership Letter Writing Campaign: "Non-traditional families lose out on a tremendous number of legal benefits and protections because there is no way for them to be legally recognized as families by the state. The laws benefiting marriages were put in place to help families. While marriage was a convenient basis for defining families in the past, it is no longer realistic. About half of New Jersey’s families are treated as second class citizens simply because they hold no marriage certificate.
In order to gain legal recognition of non-traditional relationships, TaFFE has gained the support of several legislators to sponsor a bill in New Jersey. This bill would give partners the right of inheritance, freedom from double inheritance tax, medical visitation and decision rights, spousal benefits to state employees, many other rights enjoyed by married spouses, and more importantly, legal recognition as family members."
