The
State of New Jersey
Performance Evaluation System(PES)
2008
PES TRAINING
The
PAR System, used to assess the performance of classified staff,
has been replaced effective July 1, 2004. It has been replaced by
the Performance Evaluation System (PES). The PES program provides
one assessment model, using a PASS/FAIL rating scale and standardized
Universal Performance Factors for employees and/or supervisors currently
represented by AFSCME, CWA or IFPTE unions. Those employees who
fall under the FOP or PBA agreement will continue to use the PAR
system
Performance
Evaluation is an important part of organizational life. Taken seriously,
it enhances organizational effectiveness and efficiency and for
public sector organizations, it reduces the cost of doing business
and therefore saves tax dollars.
As
important as accurate completion of the forms is to the overall
process, it is critical to remember that this process requires communication
between rater and ratee and that communication is a two-way exchange.
Everything about this program and the process that surrounds it
is geared toward increasing communication and reducing misunderstandings
that often arise when one person evaluates the work of another.
The
PAR is to be used to complete the current evaluation cycle ending
June 30, 2004. The PES is to be utilized for the new assessment
cycle covering the period from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. Both
the PES/PAR FY'07 final assessment and the FY'08 PES/PAR initial
agreements are due by July 15, 2007 and should be submitted to the
attention of Keesha Chavis in CO-316.
The
new forms that apply to this process can be found on the Forms
page.
