Modified Work Schedules - Winter Holiday and Summer Season – June, 2008-June, 2011

1. All personnel who are assigned a 35-hour work week shall work an extended day/four-day work week schedule in the weeks specified in Appendix I during the months of June, July and August 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The extended day schedule will not be followed during the week which includes the July 4 holiday.  All personnel will follow usual work schedules during this week.

2. Provided that all employees meet the requirement of a 35-hour workweek, the extended workday will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 5:15 p.m.  The luncheon break will be 60 minutes.  The mid-morning and mid-afternoon rest periods will be eliminated.

3. The extended day / four day workweek schedule shall be Monday thru Thursday.  Exceptions to the normal scheduling of the summer workweek will be in effect in certain units/offices where operational need requires such exceptions.  A list will be provided to the Union in advance of each summer covered by the Agreement.  Specific modifications will provide for staggering the schedule to be either Monday-Thursday, or Tuesday-Friday, or by other arrangement between management and the employee(s).

4. Sick leave, vacation days and personal days shall be charged at the rate of 1-1/4 days, per day of absence for those on the four-day work week schedule.

5. The University will be closed during the winter holiday season as set forth in Appendix I in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In order to cover the five work days during the winter holiday period between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day in 2008, CWA unit employees assigned a 35-hour work week shall work the following Holidays during which classes are in session.  Further, the lunch period on Columbus Day, Election Day and Veterans Day shall be one-half hour long:

   Columbus Day         8:30 a.m.  to  4:30 p.m. Lunch Break = ˝ hour

   Election Day         8:30 a.m.  to  4:30 p.m. Lunch Break = ˝ hour

   Veterans Day         8:30 a.m.  to  4:30 p.m. Lunch Break = ˝ hour

This total of 22 and one-half hours of holiday time worked in 2008 will be credited as compensatory time at the rate of 1-1/2 for a total of 33.75 hours of compensatory time credited. These hours of time off will be charged to the compensatory time credited for work on the holidays specified above. Hours worked on the aforementioned holidays by CWA unit permanent part-time employees with at least a 50% time schedule will also be credited as compensatory time at the rate of time and one half. The hours of compensatory time earned in this manner may be applied to cover the same number of hours during the Christmas closing.

In 2009 and 2010 the University will be closed four days rather than five during the winter holiday period as set forth in Appendix I.  In these years all CWA unit employees assigned a 35-hour work week shall work the holidays set forth below on which classes are in session:

Columbus Day         8:30 a.m.  to  4:30 p.m.

Election Day         8:30 a.m.  to  1:10 p.m. or 11:50 to 4:30 p.m.

Veterans Day         8:30 a.m.  to  4:30 p.m.

This total of 18 hours and 40 minutes of holiday time worked in 2009 and 2010 will be credited as compensatory time at the rate of 1-1/2 for a total of 28 hours of compensatory time credited.

6. Employees who are absent due to illness on any of the specified holidays must use other appropriate leave time for the required time off on the five workdays in 2008 and the four workdays in 2009 and 2010 during the winter holiday period.

7.  In the event the Governor, by Executive Order, or the Legislature by law, declares any of the days between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day a State holiday, the time owed by unit members covered by this agreement shall be correspondingly reduced.

8. Essential services personnel may be required to follow alternate work schedules.

9. All other terms and conditions in the State Agreement remain in effect.
