Scott Buchanan of Glen Ridge displays two pictures that were
available at a charity auction Jan. 12 to benefit scholarship funds
established in memory of a Montclair State student and alumnus who
were victims of the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center. Brian
Yukna, a graduate assistant in the office of the Dean of Students
who organized the event, said approximately $6,000 was raised for
the scholarships named for Shari Kandell, age 27, a part-time English
major who worked at Cantor Fitzgerald, and Robert Hughes '01, age
23, who worked for Bank of America. Antiques, furniture, paintings,
collectibles, military items, vintage toys, sports memorabilia event
tickets and gift certificates were among the items available. Rob
Gawley of Gawley's Auctions conducted the auction. More

Improvements
being made in response to Physical Plant survey
Action is already being taken in response to results
from a survey about the performance of Physical Plant staff and the services
they perform. "Data from the surveys have been tabulated and we are
beginning to implement improvements to a host of processes," said
Tim Carey, director of Continuous Quality Improvement and a member of
the Physical Plant Customer Service Committee.(Full

The university experience. It promotes energy,
fosters collaboration and instills a true pride in the institution. It's
an experience Louis Anderson of Student Development and Campus Life would
like everyone at Montclair State to have. "That's my goal,"
said Anderson. "To bring the university experience to Montclair."

cup runneth over
The Montclair Art Museum has opened a new wing, and
commemorating the event are ceramic mugs designed by William McCreath
of Fine Arts. McCreath has had several of his creations, including a variety
of plates, bowls and sculptures, sold in the Museum Store. So when it
came time for a special piece to commemorate the museum's new wing, the
store's merchandise manager asked him if he'd be interested. (Full

Children
of Uganda presents 'Tour of Light'
The Children of Uganda dance troupe -- ambassadors for
the 1.4 million orphans living in Uganda who have lost parents to AIDS,
war or natural disasters -- will present "Tour of Light," an
exhilarating program of African music and dance Sunday, Jan. 27, at 3
