Gregory A. Pope of Earth and Environmental Studies co-authored a paper with alumna Vera Miranda, "Weathering of megaliths --evidence for rapid adjustment to new environmental conditions," published in Stone Decay: Its Causes and Controls, proceedings from Weathering 2000, Belfast, Northern Ireland, June 26-30. The paper describes deterioration of Neolithic stone monuments in Portugal. The research and subsequent presentation were both sponsored by the Global Education Center. Miranda, who assisted with the research, received funding from the Student Faculty Research Grant Program.
