NJ TRANSIT and Montclair State University celebrated the opening of the new rail station and 1,500-spot parking deck on Clove Road on Oct. 20. The MSU Station and parking deck, located on the Montclair/Boonton Line in Little Falls, offers rail service to Hoboken Terminal and Midtown Manhattan via MidTOWN DIRECT trains. Pictured, from left, are NJ TRANSIT Executive Director George Warrington, State Transportation Commissioner Jack Lettiere, Assemblyman Peter Eagler, MSU President Susan A. Cole, Montclair Mayor Ed Remsen, Little Falls Committee members Terry Ryan and Don Radcliffe, and Montclair Councilman Jerry Tobin.

Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver spoke about the benefits of the new Montclair State train station. Also pictured are President Susan A. Cole and Little Falls Committee Member Terry Ryan. Cole said, "The New Jersey Transit-Montclair State University partnership is a superb example of two organizations cooperating to provide the state with a much-needed service. Our collaboration makes higher education far more accessible to the people of New Jersey while also promoting the increased use of public transportation. It is a winning combination for everyone involved."

With Checkers the Dalmatian making an appearance, NJ TRANSIT showed off its "See More Spots" campaign for the new train station and 1,500-spot parking deck. Parking fees at the deck are $3 on weekdays and $50 for a monthly pass. Montclair State students and faculty members who purchase monthly passes will receive a 30-percent discount.

Professors team up on Gen Ed courses
Two professors for the price of one? That's the deal students get when they take certain General Education courses. And while team teaching doesn't mean double the work for students, it does give them varying interpretations and perspectives because the professors come from different discplines. New employees can get to know MSU
through new Blackboard course

The newest members of the Montclair State community now have an easy and convenient way to become familiar with the University and the services and programs offered to employees. On Nov. 15, Human Resources is offering the first "Getting to Know MSU" Blackboard course for new employees. (Full Story)

Now it's easier than ever to access information about a faculty or staff member thanks to the new Montclair State faculty/staff Web cover page. "In addition to providing a uniform look and a single point-of-entry to faculty and staff information, the cover page enhances our ability to connect with one another," said Cindy Meneghin, director of Web Services. IAPC celebrates 30th anniversary
Thirty years ago Montclair State established the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children (IAPC) to support the innovative work of Matthew Lipman and Ann Sharp in findng ways to engage children in philosophical inquiry. Today the Philosophy for Children Program, better known as P4C, is used in schools around the world. (Full Story)


Don't miss these exciting events coming down the pike...
Career Development and the Alumni Association are hosting the second annual Career Fair for Students and Alumni. The event will take place Monday, Nov. 1 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Student Center, Ballrooms. More than 45 employers will bring both entry level positions and opportunities for experienced alumni. Click here to view a list of participating employers. For those who are unable to attend the Career Fair in person, an online Virtual Career Fair will be held Nov. 2-19.

Are we alone in the Universe? That's the question Andrew Knoll, author of Life on a Young Planet: The First Three Billion Years of Evolution on Earth, will ask at this year's Margaret and Herman Sokol Science Lecture on Wednesday Nov. 3. The event will begin at 8 p.m. in the Alexander Kasser Theater. (Full Story)

"Italians of Montclair," an oral history project created by Marisa Trubiano of Spanish and Italian, preserves the traces of the Italian-American experience in Montclair and will be on exhibit at the Crane House Museum in Montclair from Nov. 6 to Dec. 28. (Full Story)

Hailed by The Strad as "a foursome of uncommon refinement and musical distinction," the renowned Shanghai Quartet will give a performance that includes the premiere of Fred Cohen's "String Quartet No. 1" on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Alexander Kasser Theater. (Full Story)
